Hi,
I know this seems petty in light of other things on the board right now, but I just got off the MY last weekend and am very disappointed that the CD that I bought from seachest on board is NOT the actual versions of Amazing Grace played on the ship! Should I have known this? I guess I should have asked before I bought it. Would Bre' have known that? Anyone know where I CAN get both the bagpies and female vocal versions that were played on the MY???? I wanted to play the music and close my eyes and fantasize about still being there!

Laine,
Sorry to hear that. I too thought that they would be the same and i am surprised to learn they aren't. I thought song 1 & 2 were the "standard" ones they played when raising the sails.
I was going to buy it before my next trip, but maybe i will wait now.
Hi Lainie,

I may be wrong, but I do believe that was Judy Collins singing.
I'm not sure there is an "original" version.
The bag pipes are probably the Grenadier Guards or some other British group..they all sound the same to me..and I have heard Mehalia Jackson and Linda Ronstedt singing.

But that was a looong time ago.
Look for the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards rendition of "Amazing Grace" from the album of the same name. It was the best-selling single in the UK in 1972 (hitting #1 in the charts in mid-April) and nominated for a Grammy for "Best Pop Instrumental Peformance - Instrumental Performer" in the same year.

The Judy Collins vocal is my favorite.

However, on one sail/ship (can't remember which) I believe they played a version of Charlotte Church singing AG.
You are correct! It is the Royal Scots Dragoons Guards! But the female vocal version is harder to figure out. It is basically a capella and it is not Judy Collins or Charlotte Church. It sounded more like Enya or Loreena Mc Kennitt -- very new age - ish or even Celtic. Seems to be neither one of the afrementioned when I scoured Amazon.com and Tower Records.

The search continues....

The Captains over the years have added a few songs here and there. The standard is the instrumental by the Royal Scot's Dragoon Guards brought to the fleet by Captain Laurie Mcleod. On the Clipper i had Judy Collins and Charlotte Church, Matt has something similar plus some whales singing, never quite figured that one out!!!!!!!!!!. On the poly i had various stuff from the Corries, Enya, Cappercallie, my favourite 'sit on my face' by Monty Python never quite caught on but it was fun to see the passenger's faces. the all time classic was Chubby Brown's version of 'living next door to alice' brought to the fleet by the one and only Annie.

Hope this helped.
Oh, good! I was hoping you'd see this post, Cap'n! That helps a lot. When you mention Enya, any idea what CD that was from? I searched and searched and could not find AG recorded by Enya. Matt's whales sing at the very end of the vocal AG version and they startled me the first time I heard 'em! LOVE the Monty Python song you are referring to!!!!! .... oh god... don't get me started on MP lines........

Thanks again, Cap'n!

Thanks to Captain Neil I figured out the female vocal version of AG that I just head on the MY last week. Captain Neil --- you mentioned the "whales". So I did a google search for AG and Whale Sounds and found it. It is Amazing Grace (Prayer to the Whales) off the CD Voice of the Feminine Spirit by Cecelia. WHEW!

Are you sure Capt. Neil wasn't referring to Enya singing "Caribbean Blue," not Amazing Grace?
