This article talks about new air security measures at airports. The list of newly permitted items is curious.
Who really needs Metal scissors with pointed blades up to 4 inches long on a plane?

We got back two days ago, and for the first time had to take off our shoes - guess they think I had some type of explosive hidden in there. I was wearing tennis shoes - go figure. But, you can now carry screw drivers, pointed objects and other items before forbidden. Obviously the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Can you say "overkill". No self respecting terrorist would even consider a plane takeover. The passengers would kill him. While the US is concerned about a plane attack, I would guess that the enemy is planning something bigger and more destructive. Hope not !!

We got back about a week ago and I used those new locks that TSA has a key to. I got the locks on QVC and you can lock them yourself but no one else can open them. On the bottom of the lock is a number--1,2,3 or 4 ---and TSA has a corresponding key. Yepp they opened all my luggage. They must have thought my nebulizer was a dangerous item

Dee, they open all locked luggage and put that paper inside saying its been gone through. I bought my lock at Target for $7. In Dallas, if you come with locked luggage, that isn't TSA approved, you have to wait while it goes through the big x-ray machine to make sure there is nothing dangerous in there. then they give you your boarding pass back so you can go through security.
FUN FUN FUN...I don't think so!

Instead of locks & etc I have started using nylon zip ties, bright colored ones. You can use them on almost any zipper to tie them to another zipper, d-ring, etc. I use to put a cheap knife in an outside pocket of checked luggage but now put an old pair of electrician wire cutters to cut them off when I get to my final destination. I think I can actually put the cutters in my carryon now with the new rules. They serve the same purpose, keeping nosey people out of your bags & the bright colors help with baggage ID.

We have never had any trouble with luggage, either coming or going, That goes also with International destinations. Maybe it is just luck but we will take it anytime. It just seems strange that you have to remove your sneakers. No self respecting terrorist would even consider an air attact now - knowing that the passengers would kill them.

When I traveled down island didn't have to remove my tennis shoes. Coming home thru Charlotte with my flight being held because the connection from Barbados was late and of course clearing customs was a necessity I had to remove my shoes. When I reached the gate the attendant took my boarding pass and gave me a nasty look, I responded sorry they made us all take our shoes off now remember we all have been thru security in Barbados and are trying to make our connecting flights, her response to mine.....You should have left enough time you're the last passenger on this flight. I didn't respond but I did leave enough time, I can't help it the frickin' flight was late landing in Barbados. Then on top of it all they didn't load my luggage. I arrived in Pittsburgh in shorts(no time to change in Charlotte as originally planned) with temp of 16 degrees :cold I
Still as aggravating as that gate attendant was if it's going to keep me safe I'll deal with it. Will be interesting to see how much longer we will have to remove our shoes with all the new changes.

And Granny don't be so sure about the terrorists they have no morals and life on Earth to them is insignificant after all how many virgins do they have waiting in Heaven? Now is not the time to become complacent.

Well, this seems to be a relatively new posting...but I wonder...

Granny, do you mean you had to take off your shoes down island? Coming thru Antigua today, I didn't, but once I got to SJU after customs, of course I had to. Been taking shoes off forever in the US airports..surprised the TSA agents haven't gotten some serious diseases from all that exposure! :yuck
