We have taken Mandoos tour several times, and he always picked us up and deposited out luggage at the ship - no additional charge. Took us on the tour, fed us a fantastic lunch, and had us at the ship in time for swizzles. What more can you ask?

Murrmaid - Sorry, I didn't know that was a personal emoticon. I was told that the emoticons with "pw" in the coding were personal and not to use. How can I tell if the ones without a "pw" are personal or not? The link you provided didn't provide a definitive answer. No offense intended.
You could try asking for a personal emoticon to be created for you as outlined here:
pub108.ezboard.com/fwindj...D=11.topic

I used to have a page on jammerbabe.com with all of the personal emoticons, but it's too much for me to keep up with this days. If you ask to use one, someone will surely speak up if it's already taken.

Sorry, but it's the best I can offer for now.

That's ok, IslandGlory...There are a lot of things to read here as a newbie and it takes a little while to settle in. We know there was no offense meant...none taken. It was just a caution for the future.

I just got confirmation that the Coyaba still has a room available on the October 16 and October 23. I am planning on booking with them. It is a single room so if you were looking for something else, they may be out of rooms. I arrive around 5:00 PM on the 16th but would be interested in a tour on the 17th.

Edited by: Clarice2 at: 4/11/04 5:17 pm

I'm STILL looking for a hotel. So, the Coyaba is all booked up. Hummmm. So, I looked at the Allamanda - not bad - not La Luna, but, not bad. At $660 for four days - reasonable, too. Checked out the Calabash - GORGEOUS place - but, at 240 to 295 per night for a single - EEEK - but that includes having you breakfast prepared for you on your terrace and all sorts of lovely little treats. But, with tax that's over $1133 for four days. Then there was Spice Island Resort (that's on the other side of Coyaba, next to the Medical School. They're right up there, too $1,864 to $2,029 for a single, but that's all inclusive and they received great reviews - still, are you really going to eat that much on property - probably not given the number of tours, and visits to friends at Coyaba, so I looked at Grenada Grand Beach Resort. This seems to be the best deal at $155 to $205 per night for a room, plus tax/service that comes to $731 to $967 for the four days. Coyaba, I believe was $140 plus per night or $660.80 for the same four days, so more $$$. It looks like a lovely property, but every review I read trashed the food. Said it was bland, recycled and luke-warm. So, who has to eat there? Can ANYBODY on this board give me some kind of input on this resort (the Grand) - unless I hear something truly hideous, I will probably book this sometime this week. PLEASE be an " " and HEEEELLLP!

Here are some reviews: www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel...enada.html

TripAdvisor.com usually has reviews of hotels most anywhere...you'll usually find some people who hate a place and some people who love it (just like here)...so much depends upon your expectations. You'll find people here on the Flotilla who are quite happy with a $40 a night hotel who would never be comfortable in a $300 a night hotel and vice versa.

You might check the reviews of some of your other options here also.

Thanks, Murrmaid...Yeah, I have been to that web site - it's pretty good - I was just hoping to hear from someone who had given it a "first-person" try. A few years ago I was on Tortola and confused Rhymers Beach Hotel with Quito Rhymers Hotel - they are right across the street from each other. Quito's is so very nice - the other (at the time, don't know how it is now) was UNBELIEVEABLE!! To open my door, all I had to do was reach through the hole in it and flip the lock. The sink in the bathroom was too large, so they cut a hole in the door and the side of the wall to accommodate it. It was, like, the Bates Hotel - lights went out every night...they use these little votive candles on saucers and laid them out on the stairs. Soooo, I always try to get a little insight before booking - since I obviously can't rely on my own good sense. Really, if anyone has stayed at the Grand, please let me know. I asked for a better rate and she said she might be able to come close to the Allamanda - so I may give it a try.

Guess we had better get busy and book a hotel. Didn't realize that the hotels would book up so quickly.

The Allamanda is OK - we've only stayed there once before. But, we'll only be there one night, so no problem. We're booked there for Oct. 16.

I stayed there post-cruise for 2 nights in January & I enjoyed it!
Clean rooms, nice staff, next to Coyaba (easy access to the swim-up bar)

I liked it MUCH better than the Coyaba where I stayed pre-cruise...
Rates were changed, some staff were rude (the ones at the counter, not at the bar)

It seems things are always changing though - at another time, the complete opposite may be true...
We were there the day that the Challenger exploded, so it was probably a more subdued atmosphere. The food in the resturant was sub-par, and the tv only had three channels But.I am sure things have changed, as they now have cable tv and the time is different. We will be there in Oct. for the second week of Pirates Week. And fully expect to have a good time.
As I understand it, this Grenada Grand is just down the road from the Coyaba, so I could hop on over quite easily. But, I am STILL waiting for a reply for a price quote. If I don't hear anything from them today, I will probably go with the Allamanda. I'm going to be in a hotel for 4 nights (I'm coming down on the 13th just prior to the 2nd week of pirates' week, so I was hoping for something "spiffy", but, hey, any port in a storm. Hasn't anybody every been to the Grand - no personal reviews, huh? What I need is a good, long rest and a chance to unwind and decompress before boarding that ship. I tend to get soooo wired up just prior to leaving for vacation and then that's all compounded by the joy of airline travel and you-know-something-is-going-to-go-wrong-and-make-you-nuts-time happens! Anyway, perhaps my expectations are highly unrealistic.....but I did so want a spiffy little room.

Spiffy is hard word to define. You just book and hope for the best. We always hope and are somtimes disappointed and usually happy. Just take what you get and have fun.
