Well, since I'm sitting home today with a wicked flu I thought I'd throw a few other shots up.

This set of pics is from Isle Des Saintes. I did a little tour of the islands, dive-bombed the Mandalay a few times (ignore the oil slick behind her!) and landed. A super flight!

Lookin' good Steve-O! I'm jealous. I used to be afraid of small planes (but then I was afraid of a lot of things back then). My first trip in a small plane was over and in the Grand Canyon. Just like the diving thing, I was hooked. I don't get the chance very often, but I sure do like them better than the big 757's. Of course, it would be difficult to get from San Diego to, oh say Aruba, in one of those classic babies.

Fly high!

Ile des Saintes looks like a fun one to come into! But, you haven't tried St. Bart's yet??? ;)

San Diego to Aruba is doable, Lori...as long as you're not picky about the timetable!

Yep, but I've got a killer layover.

St Barts...yup, shot 7 approaches, 6 T&Gs and 1 full stop in there a few years ago in a Piper Warrior I rented out of Grand Case on St Maarten. Did Saba too, but wasn't allowed to T&G or land because you need some sort of special certificate (perhaps a signed will???)

:cheers Great!! Good shots, too!! I think one would deserve a special certificate AFTER a land at Saba!

IMG_1212.JPG looks more like a helicopter pad than a runway. Doesn't look very long from that perspective.

Saba is one of those "world famous" runway locations. In fact, the French West Indies itinerary that Windjammer runs has some amazing places to see as a pilot. I have some old pictures of St Barts, St Maarten and Saba on this website if you're interested:

http://www3.telus.net/~smhooper/

Make no mistake, TNCM (St Maarten) is the ultimate place for a plane geek (like me) to spend the afternoon watching The Big Tin land on your head....a few beers at the Sunset Beach Bar watching the planes is hard to imagine. I've been lucky enough to spend a few afternoons there watching the activity, swimming, drinking, and having a blast. Their website is: http://www.sunsetbeachbar.com/

St Barts....awesome!!! Another great place to watch planes, albeit smaller tin, landing. Truly amazing.

Saba....well, again, an amazing place to watch the Twin Otters do their thing.

So I guess what I'm saying is if you're a plane geek, book the Poly out of St Maarten!!
