Mandalay on her way to Guayaquil

Postby liz » October 27th, 2011, 11:07 pm

Here's a photo of Mandalay preparing to depart Galapagos today, for her sail to dry dock in Guayaquil. Then on to Panama afterwards!

We are planning a trip to Panama next April, maybe we should wait to see what will be happening with Mandalay!

The current plan is to sail her out of Balboa Panama to the Pearl Islands.

After dry dock, Guayaquil Ecuador to Panama, then for sale?

After I sailed Diamant, I'd pick the smaller Diamant, hands down! Try it, then you will feel better about the demise of the other ships. Trust me, it gets better!

Well, jehsail I have to admit that when I read earlier that Mandalay was headed to Panama and the Caribbean, I really had hoped the San Blas would be on her itinerary... already began discussing changing our 2012 vacation plans if it was. Now I have to go look up info on the Pearl Islands. Seems I remember that SCUBA was good around there.

Will there be any crew from the old Windjammer days? Perhaps, Captain Sly?

Thanks, I will be keeping an eye on this thread for updates.

S/V Mandalay went into dry-dock Nov 7. I received the photo on Nov 17. She is still schedule to come out of dry-dock by Nov 24 and will be moved to wet dock. On Dec 9 she will set sail to Panama. Final refit will be done in Panama like installing the new air-conditioning system. Hopefully Steve is getting his camera ready and will get us some good pictures of her all made up when she makes it to Panama.

Thanks, jehsail, for the 411! The Mandalay was always my favorite of the WJBC fleet. Yes, I'm sure Steve will take pics which I can't wait to see!

BTW - where are you in CA?

Definately nice to see the Mandalay being taken of properly. Sometime after Thanksgiving I'll hopefully be posting some pix of the Mandy that I dug up while going through some "stuff".

I'm here and camera is ready.

I'm interested to know where she will go to wet dock here in Panama. There's only one, Braswell, and it just shut down. The government changed concession owners, and they re re-organizing or something. They are also well known to be very very expensive. The only other option would be up at Vacamonte, which is an hour up the coast, but it's kind of an old toilet bowl harbour up there. It could work though?

Steve, I don’t know if Mandalay will tie up in wet dock in Panama or not. I know that there will still be heavy objects to be loaded on board like a new engine for tender #2. Tender #1 engine has already been replaced. It may be that they tie up only to load and then move to anchored. Fiddi went to Panama last week to make arrangements and may still be their. If I get any more infor I will let you know.
